Beware of small conveniences…and tables

As a leader, your success will rise and fall on the power of the team that you build. It’s not about how smart or charismatic you are. It’s not about how well you can articulate a vision. Great leaders build great teams. So as a leader, your top priority must be to create a culture that allows your team to thrive. The best of today's young leaders are looking for places where their voice can be heard, where their work has meaning and where their creativity can be maximized. Does that describe the environment you're building? If you can’t build [...]

Does Kingdom matter in this election?

By |November 4th, 2014|Categories: Government|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , |

Today is Election Day and we can all celebrate a great victory….NO MORE CAMPAIGN ADS!!!! It really is silly season, isn’t it? Millions of dollars spent to put on full display the vitriol that exists on either side of the political aisle, and for what? What changes tomorrow? More importantly, does anything we do today really effect God’s Kingdom? Johnny Enlow had an interesting post on Facebook this morning that is worth a read. However Long The Night: How One Woman Is Changing Culture

By |August 15th, 2014|Categories: Social Innovation|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , |

This week, I’ve been reading a powerful book called However Long The Night by Aimee Molloy. The book shares the story of Molly Melching, a woman you have probably never heard of, whose work is dramatically affecting the lives of millions of African girls. Melching has received numerous awards for her work in empowering African communities through education and training in proper health practices and entrepreneurship. Most importantly, Melching’s organization, Tostan, has done something no other organization has been able to do before: helping to bring an end to the practice of female genital cutting (FGC). FGC is a 2,000 [...]

What Makes Us Different?

By |July 25th, 2014|Categories: Vanguard Movement|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , |

I’ve been thinking a lot about this question. There’s been a lot of discussion in recent years about advancing the Kingdom of God into the main culture systems of society.  We know it won’t be the work of a few charismatic leaders. Instead, it will be led organically by a tribe of people who shake off their limitations to partner with God’s vision. So, we know this is what wants us to be doing...we're just trying to figure out how to do it. How do we shift culture back to Kingdom principles? How do we leverage influence in order to [...]

Want To Change Culture? Start With Your Kids

By |April 7th, 2014|Categories: Family|Tags: , , , , , , |

Understanding Family History Creates Strong Cultural Identity We talk a lot about changing culture at Vanguard Creative, because we believe that vanguards ought to be cultural influencers.  That doesn’t mean thumping your Bible or legislating morality.  I think we have proven that those tactics don’t work.    Cultural influence is about being a person that others want to emulate.  It's about changing current structures to reflect God's values so that His blessings can be released.  We don't want to beat people over the head with our religiosity.  Instead, we want them to be so taken with what is [...]
